Each ampoule of 10ml contains:
Sulfamethoxazole.......200 mg
Trimethoprim ................ 40 mg
Oral suspension
Bixazol is indicated in children aged 12 years and under for the treatment of the following infections when owing to sensitive organisms:
• Treatment and prevention of Pneumocystis jirovecii pneumonitis (PJP).
• Treatment and prophylaxis of toxoplasmosis.
• Treatment of nocardiosis.
The following infections may be treated with Bixazol where there is bacterial evidence of sensitivity to Bixazol and good reason to prefer the combination of antibiotics in Bixazol to a single antibiotic:
• Acute uncomplicated urinary tract infection.
• Acute otitis media.
• Acute exacerbation of chronic bronchitis.
- Children from 6 weeks to 5 months of age:1 ampoule/ 24 hours in 2 divided doses, 12 hours apart.
- Children from 6 months to 5 years old: 1 ampoule/ time, 2 times / day, every 12 hours apart.
- Children from 6 years old to 12 years old: 2 ampoules/ time, 2 times / day, every 12 hours apart.
- Adults and children over 12 years old: 4 ampoules/ time, 2 times / day, every 12 hours apart.
- Pneumocystis jiroveci pneumonia: High doses of trimethoprim 20 mg and sulfamethoxazole 100 mg per kg of body weight per day, divided into 2 or more doses, should be used for 2 weeks.
- Children under 12 years of age with renal or liver impairment: There is no dose-related data in children under 12 years of age and impaired renal function or liver function.
