Pilocarpine hydrochloride 2% (Pilocarpine 1.7%)
Eye drops solution
- Chronic open-angle glaucoma;
- Acute angle-closure glaucoma, used alone or in combination with other drugs to reduce intraocular pressure before surgical treatment.
- Cases requiring pupil constriction: used to counteract the effects of mydriatic and cycloplegic eye drops
Off-label:
Pilocarpine is used orally to treat symptoms of dry mouth due to salivary gland failure, which occurs after radiation therapy for head and neck cancer.
Adults (including the elderly):
- In the treatment of chronic open-angle glaucoma: 1-2 drops every 6 hours or as prescribed by a physician.
- Preoperative use for acute angle-closure glaucoma: 1 drop every 5 minutes until effect or as prescribed by a physician.
- Miosis: 1 drop every 5 minutes until effect or as prescribed by a physician.
Children:
Concentrations up to 2% can be used safely in children. Treatment should be started with the lowest dose, then depending on clinical response and tolerability, the dose can be increased to the maximum adult dose.
Directions for use: Instill the drug into the conjunctival sac.
